• An anonymous benefactor has paid the fine of a British driver imprisoned in Turkey on drugs charges.
Mickey Chinnick should be released this week, says his fiancee Danneke Neale.
Chinnick was imprisoned in 1992 after heroin was found in his vehicle but has always protested his innocence. He is one of a number of British drivers convicted abroad who say they knew nothing about drugs found in their loads,
Euro MP Edward McMillan Scott has been among those campaigning for Chinnick's release and in the past year there have been concerns about the jailed driver's health. At one point he was going to have a prostate operation, although this was subsequently cancelled by doctors when they decided it was not necessary.
