• The woman who helped to develop the framework for nationally recognised training standards in the transport industry has won an MBE in the New Year's Honours for her services to the freight industry.
Pct Hedges, who was seconded from Parcelforce, was vicechair of the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council while it was responsible for setting up the standards required for workers studying for National Vocational Qualifications in the sector.
She is currently on secondment to the University of Warwick where she is working on improving links between education and industry. Geoff Day, the Freight Transport Association's engineering policy manager, was also awarded an MBE for his services to the oil industry in his previous job as transport engineering manager at Esso.
