Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I was driving an empty Mercedes Sprinter van on a dualcarriageway section of the A64 in Yorkshire at 70mph and overtook a police car. They stopped me and said I was speeding because the van was limited to 60mph.

I have always understood the speed limit for the van on motorways and dualcarriageways to be 70mph, the same as for cars, Escort vans and Land-Rovers. Were they right ?

A Yes. The police were correct.

The speed limits fora goods vehicle not over 7.5 tonnes permitted gross weight which is not an articulated vehicle, a car-derived van or drawing a trailer are 70mph on motorways, 60rnph on other dual-carriageways and 50mph on other roads.
