Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

UNIVERSAL PRODUCTS (HULL) LTD has launched a new safety product which it hopes to sell in volume this winter.

Its new British made ice detector is a solid state thermistor operated temperature unit which gives drivers early warning of unseen freezing road conditions. It operates off 12v and 24v systems and is therefore suitable for lorries, vans or cars.

The electronic unit will operate in the worst climatic conditions and continually reads the level of air temperature which creates freezing road conditions. The components are completely cast within a special resin which makes it both waterproof and resistant to high levels of vibration, says the manufacturer.

A light emitting diode {LED) is used to give a warning signal inside the vehicle and the unit operates on a small amount of current, providing an almost failure proof warning light, it is claimed. A small control box containing a test switch and L.E.D. warning signal has a self adhesive pad for easy fixing.

Little electrical knowledge is needed to fit the complete unit, says Universal Products and a back up repair or re-calibration service facility is offered at a "nominal" cost.

Recommended selling price is £18.95 with usual trade discounts, Universal Products (Hull) Ltd, 100-102 Anlaby Road, Kingston Upon Hull, North Humberside HU3 2JE. Telephone 0482 24398.
