Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A HAULIER's New Year resolutions: • Jealousy and spite between hauliers should cease, and 50 per cent of your battle is won.

• Stop blaming customers and small operators for your pitfalls — look in the mirror.

• Realise other people deserve a living; it could be your turn next.

• Talk frankly and honestly with your fellow haulier, as his problems are similar to yours.

• Admit you have been participating in the rate-cutting fracas.

• Above all, grow up and face up to the fact your injuries are in the main self inflicted.

• Purchase a calculator to assist with your sum and count ten before you quote a rate.

• Admit you are at the end of your tether and do not know what way to turn.

• Going it alone will get you nowhere.

• It takes a braver man to increase a rate today than cut one.

• RHA take note: your members' illness can be cured by increased revenue; "Enough's enough!" should b( your slogan in 1982.

. .. Frame this and hang it in your office.

PS: Hauliers' rates today are 01 average 15 per cent lower than in 1979, therefore taking the pa two years' increased operating costs into account, rates are in fact 25 per cent below par. Add present wage negotiations to this and you will get a figure of 28 per cent — hard to believe, but it's true. "GUESS WHO?"
