THE INSTALLATION of £1.2 million worth of European-sourced equipment at the Mazda Cars Ltd Group's new parts distribution centre is nearing completion at Staplehurst in Kent.

When in three months' time it becomes fully operational • it will deal with the dispatch of 3,000 line items per day to the Mazda cars and FSO cars dealer networks around the United Kingdom and certain markets overseas. The level of automation achieves this with a staff of only 26 warehouse operators and five other personnel.

This year is the tenth anniversary of the Mazda Cars 'Group and brings to fruition an E1 1 m investment programme in new buildings and services.

John Ebenezer, managing director of the MCL Group, comm ented : "Over 350 retail garages and their many thousands of employees are dependent upon this company for their livelihood. Our investment programme has been conceived in order to make us and our dealers more efficient and better able to serve our customers, thus protecting dealers businesses and employment in many areas of the country.

"There is no doubt that this is vital to our long-term growth, and reflects our desire to plough back resources into the British economy."
