THE GENEVA SHOW, opening on January 22, will inaugurate use of a new exhibition centre vary like a smaller version of the NEC at Birmingham.
The new exhibition — Palexpo — is adjacent to Geneva airport and provides for the first time all the modern facilities lacking from the old Plainpalais site. It will be one of Europe's most international events.
The show also marks the implementation of Ole final phase of new Swiss power/weight rules under which 10hp/tonne are required for all vehicles. This means that newly registered vehicles operating at the maximum permissible gross weight of 28 tonnes must have an engine rated at 206kW (280bhp) or more. For vehicles registered before 1977 the minimum requirement is set at Bhp/tonne unless operators are prepared to have vehicles dovvnplated to lower gross weights (21 tonnes for artics, 26 tonnes for drawbar combinations).
Existing drawbar outfits operating at 190bhp will have to reduce the gtw to 23.8 tonnes.
