AThe sign you mention is in fact the only
traffic sign which a private person may legally place on or near a road. The sign should be placed on the roadway at least 50 yards, or 150 yards in the case of a motorway, to the rear of the broken-down vehicle, on the same side, to warn approaching traffic of the obstruction. Authority to use this sign is contained in the Traffic Signs (Temporary Obstructions) Regulations 1966.
