• Bus crews who curtail late night services because of attacks by passengers, have been criticized by north-east union officials. Mr. J. Mills. Newcastle secretary of the TGWU said that while he appreciated the feelings of busmen, he did not think curfews on services would stop assaults. He said that crews with the Tynemouth and District Transport Co., had introduced a curfew against union advice. Mr. M. Mountford, a north-east delegate to the TGWU said that curfews had lost their usefulness. The only answer to the problem was stiffer penalties by the courts.
