• The first o-m-o double-deckers with fare boxes are being introduced by London Transport on the Peckham-Nunhead route—and according to an LT spokesman they "herald the start of a new era of bus operation in London".

This is the second stage of the introduction of o-m-o double-deckers and it introduces fare boxes for the first time. Specially adapted 72-seat Leyland Atlanteans will replace Routemaster d/ds on circular route 173 (renumbered P3) commencing January 24.

The spokesman says that "up till now, single-deckers have been used in the reshaping plan . ."; (writes Derek Moses) in reality, this is overlooking the fact that two o-m-o d/ds entered service on route 233 (West Croydon-Roundshaw) on November 22 1969.

Although the Atlanteans seat eight more passengers than the buses they are replacing, there will be no general change in the existing pattern and general frequency of service. However, the present fares of 6d and ls will be replaced by a 6d flat fare.
