I. This Leyland Hippo "'Crane Fruehauf semi-dump trader has recently begun work transporting slag, ore and sinter at Appkby Frodingharn steel works, Scunthorpe. Supplied by John Hudsons Ltd., Bawtry, it is plated to 65 tons g.t.w. The 25ft long trailer incorporates Edbro single ram tipping gear.
.2. Lately added to the Cave Wood (Transport) fleet is this Volvo F.86 unit plated for UK operation at 32 WAS grass. With a York sliding Big 0 coupling and various brake and electric adaptors, it can haul almost any type of semi-trailer. Used on a nightly groupage service from Chesham, Bucks., to Paris, the Volvo is here seen coupled to one of Transports Internationatix J. Lion trailers at Southampton.
3. One of LWO special Merriworth outfits which, with a Rolls-Royce engked Seddon 32:Four unit. have been put in service by S. C. Johnson and Son Ltd. to carry products between factories at Feltham and Camberley which are about 30 miles apart. The Seddon works a 24-hour shuttle service operated on contract by Hilton Transport Services Ltd. While one trailer is on the road the other is being loaded; both have curtained fialength open sides for quick access by fork-lift trucks.
4. A "meaty" skeletal is this rugged 40f1 Dyson semi-trailer, one of a pair supplied to Sutton and Son (St. Helens) Ltd. It can carry one 40fi or two 20ft containers and the intermediate tit-locks are retractable with the longer boxes. Wide single 18-105 (18 ply) tyres are fitted and the tare weight is only 4 tons liciet.
5. Generous side windows are among the many conversion features made by Wadhams Coachbuilders' Ltd, for this special-purpose mobile ambulance recently supplied by Stewart and Ardern, Wembley, to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. It is based on a BMC 350 EA de luxe 322 eu.fi van
