MR. W. H.. BINNS, M.S.A.E., has become a special factory representative of Simms Motor Units, Ltd. He will operate mainly in the north. He has been connected with the Goodyear and North British rubber companies.
SIR HARRY RICARDO has been awarded the 1953 James Watt international medal by the council of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers for his contributions to knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines.
MR. H. GRINDALL has retired from his positions as special director and joint secretary of the Metropolitan-Cammell Carriage and Wagon Co., Ltd., and secretary of Metropolitan-CammellWeymann, Ltd. He has been succeeded by MR. C. G. WALLACE.
MR. BERNARD STEEP has joined William Chester Bros. (Burton-onTrent), Ltd., Birmingham, as wholesale manager. He was previously sales representative of Jowett Cars, Ltd., for the Midlands and the West. The Chester concern is a newly appointed Jowett distributor for Birmingham, the Midlands and North Wales.
SIR REGINALD ROOTEs, deputy chairman of the Rootes group, has left England for India, Ceylon, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S.A. and Canada. He hopes to be back in April. His brother, Sut Wittrast Rooms, is at present visiting North America and the Caribbean as chairman of the group and of the Dollar Exports Council. Five of the 10 Rootes directors are abroad at the moment strengthening export contacts. •
SIR WILLIAm ROOTEs, SIR REGINALD Rao-rEs and MR. BRIAN Rooms have joined the board of Rootes Motors (Canada), Ltd.
J. W. SHIRLEY will shortly be relinquishing his appointment with Eastern Coach Works, Ltd., to take up the position of director and general manager of Park Royal Vehicles, Ltd.
SIR ROBERT GOULD has succeeded MR. I. R. WILLIAMS as a director of Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd. Sir Robert was formerly Chief Industrial Commissioner at the Ministry of Labour.
SIR GEOFFREY BURTON, deputy chairman of Blaw Knox, Ltd., has been elected chairman. He succeeds the late Mr. J. Theodore Goddard. Sir Geoffrey is chairman of Dennis Brothers, Ltd., and a director of Lodge Plugs, Ltd.
M. ROGER THoRNyCROFT, D.S.C., a director of Transport Equipment (Thornycroft), Ltd., has returned from a visit to Irak and Kuwait to obtain information on the progress of those countries where the company's products are well established.
