Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ONthe recommendation of the Committee on Road Safety, which has made a three-year survey of the roadaccident problem, a road safety committee has been set up as a permanent feature of the Ministry of Transport. Mr. James Callaghan Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry, will preside.

Twenty-seven members of the committee have been nominated by Government departments, the police, educational and local authorities, road users' associations, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, and the Trades Union Congres,. Major R. A. B. Smith represents the National Road Transport Federation, and Mr. Ben Hall the Municipal Passenger Transport Association and the Public Transport Association.

The committee will consider roadsafety mattes referred to it by the Minister, and deal with other questions.

CONFERENCE SEASON OPENS IN MAY

ONE .of the earliest conferences this year will be that of the Public Transport Association at Eastbourne, which will take, place between May 3 and 6. The actual conference starts on May 4, but most people will arrive on

the previous day. This will be the second consecutive meeting of this body at Eastbourne, because of the great approval given by all the delegates to its being held there.

At Margate,' from June 14-18, the Institute of Public Cleansing will hold its Jubilee Conference. Last year nearly 800 attended, and there should oe more for this special occasion.

Then there is the Municipal Passenger Transport Association Conference, which will be held at Liverpool between* June 15 and 18. This is always a popular event and is notable for the amount of business conducted. In last year's hot weather there were both morning and afternoon sessions.

FORD APPROVES PERKINS P.6 ENGINE

CORRO13ORATION has now been received from the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., of the report, published exclusively in "The Commercial Motor" on October 17, that the Perkins P.6 oilengine is obtainable as an alternative power unit in Thames vehicles.

F. Perkins, Ltd., Peterborough, which is providing effective after-sales service, is operating an engine exchange system similar to that employed by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., for more than 13 years. Ford dealers' mechanics attend Perkins' instructional school.

LICENCES ON TRUST

OPERATORS who have not yet applied for renewal of their vehicle licences because their registration books are still with region petroleum offices, should apply as soon as possible to their local taxation office, explaining the circumstances. Licences will be renewed without producion of the registration book, but it must be sent to the local taxation office when it is returned from the petroleum office.
