WEST YORKSHIRE-based dealer Pelican Engineering has been named as the new importer of Turkish-built BMC municipal vehicles, buses and coaches.
The appointment comes two weeks after the previous importer BMC plc, based in Coventry, was liquidated on 28 January following a compulsory liquidation petition by HM Revenue and Customs.
Ken Grindrod, sales director of Normanton, West Yorks-based Pelican Engineering, which has been a BMC dealer for seven years and has Daf, Hino and MAN franchises, says the agreement includes importing municipal vehicles, buses and coaches, as well as parts.
The municipal vehicles will be 4x2, 6x2 and 6x4 Professional low-entry cab trucks.
“We will have responsibility for 1,000 vehicles, including more than 130 trucks operating in the UK.
“It will take a while to build the job up, but we have the experience and inancial backing and knowledge to do it properly,” Grindrod says.
“At the moment we aren’t planning to import the [entire] truck range, but who knows?” Pelican Engineering is looking to bring in dealers to build up the network, for both sales and servicing.
