Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THERE are no plans to ii crease maximum lorr weights in this countr Transport Minister Williai Rodgers will tell his Europea counterparts next month.

He promised this in th Commons last week, con menting "My primary concer is that the weights of lorri( operating in this country al not increased."

He noted that this had bee discussed in conjunction wit dimensions at the last meetin of the Council of Transpoi Ministers.

He recognised that ther was a difference. He was YR prepared to see any movemer with regard to weights.

Mr Rodgers agreed that th objection to heavy lorrie went much wider than the ax] weight and the damage the did to the road.

Recent circumstances ha made it clear how depender we were, for better or wors1 on heavy goods vehicles.

We had to strike a balanc between the needs of the er vironment, which wer paramount in the case c weights, and the importar contribution that the roa haulage industry made to th British economy.
