Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE NUMBER of goods vehicles imported into Britain from countries outside the EEC has more than doubled over the last five years — from 8,000 in 1974 to 21,000 in 1978.

Giving these figures in the Commons, Michael Meacher, Under Secretary for Trade, noted that the total number of imports in those years had been 40,000 and 47,000.

In the years in between total imports had been: 1975, 26,000 (7,000 from non EEC countries); 1976 27,000 (8,000); and 1977 37,000 (11,000). ' New goods vehicle registrations over those years had been: 1974, 237,000 (of which 33,000 — 14 per cent — were imports); 1975, 220,000 (25,000 — 11 per cent); 1976, 209,000 (30,000 — 14 per cent); 1977, 225,000 (37,000 — 16 per cent); 1978, 256,000 (56,000 — 22 per cent).
