Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

With reference to the report "Ronnie Cox goes west" (CM January 26) I was surprised to read some of the answers to questions put by Martin Hayes and, in particular, those dealing with arrangements in this part of the world.

The whole of the North Western business has not been bought by SELNEC PTE. Lancashire United Transport Ltd is still an independent company operating services not only in the SELNEC area, both as now designated and in its future extension, but also in the Merseyside PTE area and in the extended County of Cheshire.

The present working agreement with SELNEC provides for an option to SELNEC to purchase the issued share capital of LUT after December 31 1975 and it is therefore incorrect and possibly damaging to state that SELNEC is "in the act of taking over LUT".

I hope that Mr Cox will put the record straight.

R. BAILEY, Director and General Manager, Lancashire United Transport Ltd.

[We have received a letter from Mr Cox stating that, owing to a misunderstanding on his part, he inadvertently said in our interview that SELNEC was taking over LUT. He is aware of the true situation (outlined above by Mr Bailey). Mr Cox also asks us to point out that the comments he expressed in the interview "should be read as general views and not as any sort of policy statement regarding my new responsibility". — Ed.]
