Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Mr William Murray, general manager of Glasgow Corporation Transport, has been offered the post of director of operations with the new Glasgow Passenger Transport Executive which will take over the operation or public transport services in the Glasgow area later this year. This was exclusively forecast in CM during an interview with Mr Ronald Cox on January 26. Mr Cox is the PTE's director-general, a post for which Mr Murray was unsuccessfully short-listed.

The PTA decided to offer Mr Murray the £940,000 a year post at a meeting last Friday. Mr Murray told CM on Tuesday that it was too early to make an announcement of the job, but he is expected formally to accept it at a meeting of Glasgow's transport committee on Monday next.

At its meeting last week, the PTA decided to advertise the remaining three posts on the Executive. The director of finance will receive £9-10,000 a year while the directors of industrial relations and planning and development will receive between £7500 and £8500 a year. Applications for the three posts will close on March 13 and appointments should be made during April. The PTA is still aiming at a June 1 vesting date for the PTE which, by that time, must employ three directors, including Mr Cox.

Glasgow Corporation is holding a special farewell celebration for its transport staff before the PTE comes into being.
