A FOUR-STROKE injection type I—I engine is shown in patent No.. 879,081, the novelty residing in the layout of the combustion arrangements. Two chambers are used, one in the head and the other in the crown of the piston. (Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz A.G., DeutzMulheimerstrasse 149/155 Koln-Deutz, Germany.) • The drawing shows a cross-section of a cylinder head according to the invention. A spherical chamber (1) in the head contains the injector and a heater plug. A passage (2) leads to a recess (3) in the
crown of the piston.
The aim of the layout is to shape the piston recess so that the hottest part of the combustion gases is deflected to the coolest part of the cylinder, that is, to the region of the inlet valves. If two inlet valves are present, then the gases are divided into two streams, one to each.
The patent is intended for air-cooled engines in particular.
