summonses brought by the Ministry of Transport against the managing director of a Taunton firm of removal contractors and two of their drivers in connection with the keeping of driving records.
The prosecution alleged that entries had been foiged or altered to cover up offences. The Bench, after considering' the evidence for nearly five hours at a resumed hearing, decided that the evidence would not justify any of the cases being committed for trial.
Four charges two against the managing director and one against each of the two drivers had been withdrawn by the prosecution after an earlier threeday hearing (reported in The Commercial Motor last week).
The managing director, Douglas Fear, of St. Andrews Road, Taunton, faced eight charges of uttering forged docufnents. One driver, Alan Arthur White, of Norton Fitzwarren, had been charged with one offence of forging records and
one of making a false statement. His brother, Melv-yn Edward White, of Norton Fitzwarren, had been accused of altering record sheets with intent to deceive.
The bench refused an application for defendants to be awarded Costs ..otit of public funds.
