A TRUCK THIEF who ran over a driver with his own vehicle has been jailed for nine years, John Clarke of East Ham had pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Ian Jones and to aggravated vehicle taking and theft of a load.
Alan Clarke of East Ham, John Kiely of Purfleet and Douglas Price of East Ham, were sentenced to between 18 months and three-anda half years" jail for perverting the course of justice.
Croydon Crown Court heard how on 7 August 2003 Jones had parked his 18-tonner at the rear of Currys Superstore, Chingford. Clarke got into the truck and started to drive away. On hearing the noise Jones came out of the warehouse and tried to stop him. He went under the wheels of the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
