Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Brian Weatherley • Renault plans to shave some weight off its top-ofthe-range Magnum tractor in the spring in a bid to make it more attractive to UK operators. The French manufacturer will reduce the Magnum's relatively high kerbweight with changes to the chassis.

Fully fuelled the 4x2 vee-eight engined Magnum 520 tares out at around 7.72 tonnes; more than the equivalent Scania 143.500 and the Mercedes-Benz 1850. A revised version of the Major cab, with new exterior cab panels to give better aerodynamics, is also set to appear during the middle of 1994.

On the powertrain front, Renault VI UK boss Bernard Momin says Renault's six, 10 and 12litre in-line engines will get electronic fuel control systems in time for the Euro-2 emissions limit due in 1995/96. The vee -eight Mack engine currently fitted in the most powerful Magnum models will gain Mack's own electronic V-MAC fuel management system.

Although up until last week Renault and Volvo were working on a number of joint projects, including mediumduty engines and cabs, Momin says Renault will own range of modular cabs from 17-38 tonnes which are due to appear before the end of the decade replacing the long-serving develop its Major and Manager cabins. The Magnum will continue to be the French truck maker's flagship tractor with its distinctive flatfloor cabin.
