MORE than 2,000 tanker drivers employed by Shell in Britain are negotiating a pay claim said to be around 30 per cent.
A Shell spokesman told CM this week that senior shop stewards had met the company to seek further clarification of the company's response to the pay claim.
He made it plain that the men are not considering strike action. But the peaceful settling of the dispute must be in doubt if the claim is as high as 30 per cent.
Shell is the first company to take part in pay talks on this scale in the tanker sector of the industry, and it is certain that the outcome of the negotiations will be watched with interest by other tanker men nationwide.
