TRONG denials have been lade by the National Freight .orporation that its chairman ir Dan Pettit has warned the lepartment of Transport he light be offering his mployees a pay rise of more Ian 10 per cent.
In an article published in 'he Guardian, written by 'eter Hillmore, a figure of 16 per cent was suggested.
This, said a spokesman for the NFC, was "absolute rubbish. We are very angry about this and don't know where the idea came from. All State industries are under strict instructions to obey the 10 per cent pay limit."
A senior official in the Transport and General Workers Union involved in the NFC pay talks, Jack Ashwell, told CM: "Nobody has said anything to me about it. There are no percentage claims as such going through."
But he did admit a substantial claim had been submitted by the union negotiators.
There is to be a further meeting to discuss a pay rise on December 15.
