SUGGESTIONS that express service coach operators should be eligible for a fuel ditty rebate, and a Bus Grant similar to those available for stage carriage operators, were said to be inappropriate by the Government in its White Paper response to the report of the Select Committee on British Rail.
The Committee also suggested that London Transport should become a Passenger Transport Executive, and the GLC a Passenger Transport Authority. The Government, however, felt that this, also, was not necessary.
Agreement on the desirability of making available more of the financial affairs on the National Bus Compapy, Scottish Transport Group and British Rail was voiced by the Government in its White Paper.
