ANEW type of semi-trailer is announced today by the York Trailer Co., Ltd., Corby, Northants. It is known as the Trombone, andcan be extended from its normal length of 26 ft. to 40 ft. to make it suitable for transporting long, Indivisible loads. The change in length can be effected in less than a minute, it is claimed.

The Trombone is available with capacities of 12 or 14 tons when equipped with a single axle, and 17 tons with a tandem-axle layout. The semi-trailer is of the frameless type, and the load-carrying side members are of fabricated rectangular steel tubes, one tube sliding within the other at each side.

A patented locking mechanism holds these tubes firm in both the extended and telescoped positions, and the standard trailer can be locked in an intermediate position, giving a length of 33 ft. Any
