CLOSER liaison between traffic managers, production managers and hauliers would help to control rising transport costs, said Mr. P. G. Norton, director of Macclesfield Transport, Ltd., at the company's annual dinner.
One of the greatest current evils was the time spent in loading and unloading, he said. In some instances restrictive practices at the loading bay were encountered. These could be overcome by better understanding with the trade unions.
Mr. A. H. E. Film ore, regional supply transport officer, -Ministry of Supply, Manchester, said that greater efficiency might be secured if industry could give operators better notice of requirements. Thousands of vehicles had now passed to private ownership, and traders looked for efficiency combined with competitive charges. They did not ask for cut rates, which had made difficulties before nationalization.
Mr. C. R. Lovett, chairman, said that forecasts of traffic made a year ago had been fully juitified, and the present year would show a further big increase.
