Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SUBJECT to road services licences and other necessary permission beinq obtained, the Gateshead and District Tramways Co., Ltd., and Newcastle Corporation propose to replace trams by motorbuses on their joint services.

Early in the New Year, buses will be introduced on the Heworth and Wrekenton services. Trains will cease to runs on the New Tyne Iln:dge and in Newcastle, but will continue for the time being to operate in Gateshead.

These proposals are intended as an interim measure pending a complete abandonment of trams in late 1950 or early 1951. For this programme the company, as a statutory undertaking, requires an Act of Parliament. First steps to secureit have already been taken, and the Bill should become law in June or July, 1950.

Trolleybuses were originally intended to replace the trams.
