BPGUN in the first half of 1948, and not expected to come "on stream" until January, 1950, at the earliest, the new Shell refinery at Stanlow, near Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, is already in operation, more than a month ahead of schedule. Petrol and other petroleum products from Middle East crOde oil are being manufactured at the design rate of about 1.000,000 tons a year.
