Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Rikki Chequer, community manager for Trucknet UK, reports on what's concerning professional drivers.

It's been another busy week on the TruckNet UK forums. Unsurprisingly, the owner-operators and drivers in the agricultural sector are already talking about the foot-and-mouth outbreak and the possible consequences for their livelihoods.

In the Health and Family Matters forum a driver relates the pain and anguish of a heart attack not only the physical pain, but the worry over his ability to work and provide for his family.

An urgent load to Croatia gave rise to a number of questions and some quick responses in the Euro Driving forum; in no time at all the driver was able to determine which documents were needed for driver, truck and load this is what TruckNet UK is all about.

A request from a photographer who wants to make a photo project of female truck drivers gets a very mixed response, with one driver pointing out that if they singled out black drivers in this way it would be labelled as racist.

A topic asking why some drivers only work part-time receives many replies, with answers as varied as the jobs the weekend drivers do. One driver points out that working three nights over the weekend for an agency gives him more take-home cash than a full week tramping/nights away used to, with more time at home with his family.

A trailer manufacturer is asking TruckNet UK drivers for their views on steering axles, in particular the advantages/disadvantages of castor-steer over command-steer trailers; as might be expected, the answers vary immensely.

Finally, TruckNet UK needs your help (if you are an expert on gearboxes). A heated debate on whether double declutching will damage a syncromesh gearbox has been under way for a few weeks, with no one able to give a definitive answer. If you can shed light on this matter please head over to the Newbies forum on TruckNet UK or e-mail me at ukadmin@truck.net
