Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Daimler-Benz is forging on alone to take over Spanish truck maker Enasa following MAN's withdrawal from the deal (CM 19-25 July).

The German and Spanish firms are locked in negotiations which will decide the fate of the Pegaso marque. A spokesman for Daimler-Benz was unable to say more than: "We are waiting for an answer from Enasa." Details of any offer are unknown.

The original proposal, under which MAN would have taken 60% of the Spanish operation and Daimler-Benz 20%, was rejected by the West German Federal Cartel Office on the grounds it would damage local competition.
