• A missing fire extinguisher on a minibus operated by Manchesterbased Bee Line Buzz, cost the company 2100 in fines and costs when it appeared before the city's magistrates.
Prosecuting for the North West Traffic Area, John Heaton said that a traffic examiner checked an 18-seater Leyland at Manchester Airport. The driver said that the vehicle was on a regular service. Although there were no passengers on board, the driver admitted that passengers had been carried. The vehicle had no fire extinguisher.
For Bee Line, it was said that the incident was regrettable and the minibus should never have left the depot. The company currently operated 347 vehicles. The minibus concerned was checked the night before and a fire extinguisher was present. Vandals had broken into the vehicle during the night and removed the fire extinguisher. It was part of the drivers' duties to check their vehicles before and after service, and fire extinguishers were one of the items to be checked.
