Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WITH REGARD to the news item, "Metal fatigue blamed for smoky exhaust" (CM July 12), while not wanting to make an issue of the incident, we wish to point out one or two inaccuracies in the report?

At no time during the proceedings was any mention made that all North Eastern BRS vehicles had a smoke emission problem. What was said was that the fault, injector nozzle tip breaking off, was a known problem to diesel fuel injection specialists and thus the transport world.

The other point refers to the vehicle's exhaust system. In court it was again stated that the type fitted was mounted in such a manner to direct the exhaust towards the road surface and to the vehicle rear. A frontmounted exhaust would emit exhaust to the o/s directly below the cab foot step, in which case the driver would have had no excuse.

We remain one of your faithful readers.
