The front axle has a capacity of 8.5 tonnes while the two rear axles are rated at 18.25 tonnes each, giving the necessary 45 tonnes total capacity.
As with all the heavy duty chassis in the MAN range, the 45.320 DFAK is built at the Austrian factory of OAF-Graf und Stift, a wholly owned subsidiary of the German company.
The chassis cab weight of the new .6x6 is 10.6 tonnes, with the total length of the chassis being about 7.6m (24ft 11 in).
MAN-VW is currently appraising an 8x8 chassis for possible future development as a heavy haulage tractive unit. Such a basic design already exists — it is now a question of .deciding on the detail component specification.
A turbocharged and chargecooled version of the MAN V12 engine is a possibility. In this form it develops 460kW (615bhp) when the chassis would be plated for 350 tonnes gross.
