Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

FOLLOWING its introduction of the Low Maintenance battery last year, Chloride Automotive Batteries, makers of Exide and Dagenite, is the first company to offer British batteries with 'Sealed for Life' cells.

The new range, suitable only for cars and light vans fitted with alternators, has been developed after five years of research using lead calcium alloy plates, eliminating antimony which was previously used to harden the lead plates.

The result is less gassing and subsequent reduction in water loss which has been further reduced by changing the design of the vents.

The advantages of these lead calcium batteries are said to be a five per cent increase in cold starting, maintenance-free performance and, for the distributor, a longer shelf life.

Sealed for Life batteries are available from October and carry a four-year guarantee two years full guarantee plus an additional period of two years during which a new battery will be supplied at half the current selling price.
