AT GRAYS Magistrate: Court last week a haulag: company from Romford, Es sex, pleaded guilty to over loading one of its vehiclel which was carrying sand.
The vehicle, belonging tc Star Groundwork Ltd, was stop ped at Tankhill Road, Purfleet on April 22 and was overloade( on its second axle. Whet weighed on the public weigh bridge at Tankhill Road thr vehicle exceeded the permittec legal weight by 13 per cent, saic the prosecuting solicitor for thi Metropolitan Traffic Area, Mar tin Bentley.
The company's administra tion director, Anthony Francis told the Court that his company sells sand from quarries whicl often do not have weighbridges The company has instructei its drivers to level out am spread the load with a shovel oi these occasions and in we weather they are instructed t, weigh their loads. The charge i then passed on to the custome although they are often reluci ant to pay, said Mr Francis.
In future, drivers will obe these instructions and if client will not accept the additionz charge for weighing, the conpany will not deal with them, h said.
The company, which ha, previous convictions for over loading, was fined £75 an ordered to pay £10 costs.
