Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Turner two-stroke three-cylinder diesel engine for installing in a light vehicle in place of a petrol engine. It has the appropriate power and speed characteristics and should be ideal for the job. Have you any advice to give on the proposal and could you say whether a Turner V4 two-stroke was produced?

AA spokesman of the Turner Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Stafford Road, Fordhouses, Wolverhampton. states that the Turner twostroke "never got off the groundand that the V4 did not reach the production stage. Although some spares are available, he strongly advises against the use of a secondhand threecylinder engine as a conversion unit.

Incidentally, converting a vehicle to diesel operation would be unwise if the torque capacity of the gearbox did not match the torque of the engine. In a particular case the torque of the diesel could be higher than that of the original petrol engine despite the greater bhp output of the latter. And the additional weight of the diesel would probably necessitate modification of the springing at the front and possibly the use of a heavier axle.
