• The Minister of Transport has authorized the London Borough of Barnet to accept the £288,948 tender of Fitzpatrick and Son (Contractors) Ltd. for the first stage of the improvement of the North Circular Road (A406), Great North Way (Al), and Falloden Way (Al) ) complex. Work will start shortly and take about 16 months to complete.

A 75 per cent grant is to be made by the Secretary of State for Scotland, to Roxborough County Council towards the cost of a £110,000 scheme for replacing Jedfoot Bridge on A698 (Hawick-Kelso) road.

This month will see the beginning of the £1,313,613 improvement scheme for the 1.6 miles of Rochester Way on the LondonCanterbury-Dover trunk road (A2) in Bexley LB. The existing three-lane road will be replaced by dual 36ft wide three-lane carriageways with a continuous 6ft wide central reservation.

A further 7.9 miles of M6 Motorway between Farleton and Killington in Westmorland is expected to cost £5,404,920 and take two years to complete. The contract includes the building of 14 bridges and about four miles of slip roads and side road diversions. The motorway will have dual 36ft wide three-lane carriageways. This section of M6 is part of the 36.9 miles between the Lancaster by-pass and the Penrith by-pass.

The final three miles of the second stage of the Hamilton by-pass (M74 Glasgow-Carlisle trunk road) has been opened. The section of the road is from Bothwellhaugh Interchange to Maryville Junction which will become Scotland's first three-level, motorway-to-motorway interchange.
