• Scania has bolstered its attack on the UK eight-wheeler market with a new, highpowered P113-360 chassis which makes its debut at Tipcon in three weeks' time.

The P113-360MK 8x4 rigid is powered by the uprated 264kW (354hp) version of the same Scania 11-litre straight-six engine currently fitted in the P113-320MK chassis. Peak torque on the charge-cooled DSC11-18 360 engine is 1,585Nm (1,1691bft).

Standard gearbox is the 10-speed GR871 range-change, although the 14-speed GRS900 range-change and splitter box could also be offered as an option.

The P113-360MK will be available with the same wheelbases as the P113-320MK, together with the latest Scania two-spring back bogie and a choice of day or sleeper cab.

The first right-hand-drive P113-360MK chassis has already completed UK Type Approval and has been fitted with a Wilcox body and Edbro tipping gear. It will be displayed on Edbro's stand at Harrogate.

The 264kW 11-litre engine has extended Scania's UK eightlegger line-up above the 239kW (320hp) mark for the first time. The P113-360MK is likely to appeal to those tipper buyers looking for a long-distance trunking model or for the increased productivity offered by the extra power.

Quoted kerbweight for the P113-360MK at 8,480kg is the same as the P113-320MK for the 5.1m wheelbase model with 20 litres of fuel.

Before the end of the year Scania (Great Britain) will have rationalised its multi-wheeler Line-up upon the two-spring MK chassis. The old four-spring bogie (ML) chassis are slowly being phased out: the P113320ML model has gone; the 8x4 P93-280ML will eventually go as will the four-spring P93 sixwheeler.

0 A two-spring version of the 6x4 will also be shown for the first time at TipCon. For a full road test report on the latest P 93-28 OMK six-wheeler see pages 38-43.
