Talking of toasts, that was an impressive toast list at the Scottish section of the CIT last week. The toast "The City of Glasgow" was proposed by Professor Ken Alexander, who has presented papers at CM's Fleet Management Conference and the RHA's annual conference. With Glasgow's finances reported to be in a parlous state an economist was a particularly suitable choice for the toast.
I don't know if there was any significance in the convenor of the Strathclyde Regional Council proposing the toast to the CIT; he is a Bachelor of Divinity. Anyway, there was little chance of the members getting out of hand with the Licensing Authority presiding over the gathering. It's good to see that stalwarts like James Barrie, Hector Dick, and Tom Atkin still find the time and enthusiasm to serve on the Scottish centre committee.
