AN allegation that Sheffield Corporation were seeking to break into the excursion and tour business of Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., was made before the Yorkshire Licensing Authority on Monday.
S.U.T. applied to run three tours of the city and outskirts. Extra vehicles were not required. Mr. Dennis Rogers, assistant traffic manager of the applicants, said that between May and September last year 16.708 passengers were carried on the company's short tours.
Mr. S. Hilton, for the corporation, said that they could run excursions justas satisfactorily and cheaper. To avoid seeking to increase fares, they had to look carefully at every pound of potential revenue and see that it was gathered in, so that services could be maintained.
The Authority rejected two tours and postponed a decision on the third until the corporation's plans came before him.
