Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

theTerrano is more the faithful workmate than playmate. Just before Christmas CM put this grafter though its paces around our arduous Kent test route before embarking on the longterm test procedure.

Most impressive on the specification list is the 3.0-litre,154hp engine, which can be difficult to control when you're travelling along the M6 and the traffic has thinned out.

When we tested it for fuel consumption on mixed roads it returned 32.9mpg laden and settled down to around 42mpg unladen.

Fuel economy probably won't be too much of an issue if you pick up one of these but the overdrive five-speed transmission helps reduce revs past 6Orriph.The gearbox has loosened up noticeably since the winter but the range is still tight enough to move swiftly up and down the transmission.

If you're running a short-wheelbase 4x4 you need to make sure the correct air-pressure is in the tyres all the time.Any drop, or over inflation, will affect handling.Tight roundabouts in wet conditions can lead to under steer or, worse, losing the back end as there's so little weight going through the rear axle. Mind you, the Terrano came into its own when we hooked up a trailer to help someone move house; the driveline and handling adapted very well. •
