local authority for a schools meals service, charging Is 4d a mile for an acwt van. This year I lost the contract to a contractor who quoted 1s 1d a mile—this despite the fact that! had a letter from the clerk to the education committee stating that I had given every satisfaction.
The other contractor did not have a carriers' licence for this work until after he got the contract.
At the public inquiry! appeared as an objector and the Licensing Authority advised me that having regard to the considerable saving (5s a day) to the local authority he was obliged to grant the licence. Is this the case?
AThere can be no doubt that the Licensing
Authority must take into consideration the saving to a local authority. Presumably this 5s a day saving was for one vehicle; consequently the annual saving to the authority would be £45 for a nine-month school year. Your past conduct as a carrier has also been taken into consideration and you have been considered to be entirely satisfactory; however, the financial implications by far outweigh the other considerations.
