Lancashire County Council report that a Manchester firm of haulage contractors conveyed from Manchester to Liverpool along the main road a stator weighing 90 tons 13 cwt., the load being transported on a specially built eightwheel tractor 'weighing 16 tons, making a total weight of 106-i tons, exclusive of the weight of the three traction engines used for drawing the load.

One of the district surveyors made an inspection of the road from the borough boundery at Eccles to Barton Moss Lane, in the township of Barton Moss. The granite sett paving on this section was laid in the year 1924, and the setts immediately on the wheel tracks of the heavy load are in such a condition that they will require to be taken up, and In most cases new setts provided.

Reports have also been received from the borough surveyor of Eccles and the surveyor to the Urban District Council of Irlatn, complaining of . the damage done to the roads by this heavy load.

An independent surveyor has been engaged to examine and report upon the whole route between Manchesterand Liverpool within the county area, and the County Council has instructed the Clerk of the County Council to take such stepst as he may consider necessary to recover from the haulage contractor the cost of repairing the damage to the main road and, if necessary, to institute proceedings for an injunction to prevent the conveyance of any similar or other unreasonably heavy loads.
