Some trials with motor trucks fitted with producer-gas plants have lately been carried out in the Belgian Ardennes under the auspices of the State mining authorities of the Belgian Congo. Although the trials showed that the power developed by the engines was not so high with an explosive mixture consisting of charcoal gas and 'stir as with a petrol-air mixture, the results achieved are considered to warrant the adoption of producer-gas plants on motor lorries, as in the Congo there is a plentiful supply of timber at a cheap rate, whereas, owing to the cost of transportation, petrol is dears The trials are to be continued in the Belgian Congo at various altitudes and over roads which present greater difficulty than those encountered in the Ardennes trials.
