Meeting Irene for the first time round you'd never believe it, and indeed that was how "Telly" Savalas reacted to it when they met recently in Moscow. Apparently Irene spotted the TV cop in a restaurant and pointed him out to her male companions.
Kojak blended in so well with the Russian guests that the others refused to believe her. Eventually he was invited over to the table and introduced to the company with the exception of Irene, She was kept at the end of the queue. When she was introduced the hosts explained that she sold them "gynormous" pieces of plant.
Kojak looked a little bewildered I am told and then with typical Russian efficiency the chief host said "As you are Telly Svalas and also Theo Kojak Irene Dunn is also Mrs Crane Fruehauf."
I hear that he went back to his table still bewildered.
