suitable for garages and workshops where such light jobs as the operating of air compressors, tyre pumps, etc., have to be undertaken, has recently been brought out by the Villiers Engineering Co., Ltd., Wolverhampton, which" has had a lengthy experience in the manufacture of two-stroke motorcycle engines.
The stationary engine is a watercooled three-port two-stroke unit of 250 c.c., which develops 1 h.p. at 1,000 r.p.m. It is tank-cooled and governor controlled, whilst a special feature is a novel silencing arrangement. The gas passes into an initial iron expan sion chamber and from _thence into a cast aluminium silencer, which actually forms the base of the engine. The unit is fitted with a Villiers carburetter and Villiers flywheel magneto, and is lubricated on the petroil system. There is a separate oil feed to the governor mechanism.
In motorcycling, circles this make of engine is, of course, famous for its reliability and for its powers of endurance, many trophies having been secured by machines powered by Villiers engines. These units are also frequently employed in connection with small stationary appliances and enjoy a good reputation for their economy of operation.
