Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

to the Range of Latil Chassis A Low-loading 6-ton Chassis and a Trailer with a 2-ft. Frame Height. Modifications to Certain Well-tried Models.

T0-DAY the demand in certain spheres of haulage work is for chassis which give a low loading-line to reduce the time and labour which have to be expended at terminal points. Bearing this fact in mind, Latil Industrial Vehicles Ltd., Stevenage Road, London, S.W.6, has introduced two new types which have low frame levels. One is a descendant of the B5 Express 6-ton chassis, whilst the other is a trailer for use in conjunction with the I32T 5-ton tractor.

In the following paragraphs are given the machines which comprise the range, reference being made at appropriate points to the new types. Loads from 30 cwt. to 30 tons can be handled by Latil lorries and tractors.

Type B is intended for loads from 30 cwt. to 35 el:ft. and is offered in two wheelbases. The shorter model can be supplied at £350 with a straight or dropped chassis frame. The long-wheelbase machine costs £395. A detachable cylinder head is used on the 17.9 h.p. engine. This feature is the only material alteration: Next comes the KB2 for 50-cwt. burdens. A detachable head is also specified in this case, but the engine is of 20 h.p. (R.A.C.). The chassis price is £495.

With its front-wheel drive the NP5LL low-loading 5-ton model is priced at £695. This has proved so satisfactory that no alterations, other than minor details, have been made for the coming season. Another chassis of the same capacity, but having four-wheel drive, is the NTP. This can, be used as a 5-ton lorry or to haul an additional five tons . on a trailer. Suitable gear ratios are provided for either 'class of work. The load on the trailer cain be increased slightly if local gradients permit. This machine is unaltered: it costs £725.

A tractor for .5-ton loads is the 132T ; this now has an engine, with a detachable head; it is otherwise unaltered. It will be remembered That this model has instantaneous and automatic trailer coupling. The. standard trailer has solid tyres and a normal loading, height. The new one has the same type of tyre equipment; but a loading height of only 2 ft. . Folding legs are used to support the fore part of the trailer, when separated from the tractor. The motive wait costs £495 and the trailer £165.

No fewer than three types of B5 six-to.uner are now offered. The first is the familiar. normal straight-type chassie introduced a few months ago. This can be supplied with or withouta towing hook.Gear ratios can be varied according to the type of work for which the machine will he employed. This model costs £925. The long-wheelbase pattern is priced at £960.

The third machine is the new low-loader at £990. The overall length of the last-named type is 27 ft. 4 ins., the body space is 19 ft. 4 ins, and the frame• height (laden) 2 ft. 1 io. The frame of this machine ie droppeCto give the low loading-height required. The main details are in accordance with the normal pattern fully described in our issue dated March 5th last.

Having a 20 h.p. engine with a detachable cylinder head is the KT% tractor capable of handling loads of 10 tona or more if required: This machine has four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and brakes on all wheels. , For road haulage work' this model costs £655. A variation ofthis machine is supplied at 1625, with special apuds which can be quickly operated in conjunction with pneumatic tyres. Its purpose is traction over soft surfaces as well as on roads.

The largest Latil is the T.A_R4 30-ton road tractor. This, again, has drive, steering and braking on all four of its solid-tyred wheels. It is unaltered for next year. Its price is £1,250.

The company is shortly opening new premises, probably about the time of the Show. These will be at 11, Albert Embankment, London, 8.E.11. The floor space is 27,000 sq. ft. All departments, sales, service stores and administrative, will be located there.
