• Commercial vehicle sales in October were 22% down on the same month last year. This is slightly less severe than the September fall of over 30%, but will do little to raise the spirits of manufacturers.
Sales for the first 10 months were over 20% down on January-October 1989, according to the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. Leyland Daf still leads the field with 678 registrations, but Mercedes-Benz has overtaken lveco Ford for second place, with 586 vehicles registered against Iveco Ford's 527. Volvo follows with 421.
With just 59 registrations, Foden is at the bottom of the table, well below Seddon Atkinson with 84. ERF, MAN, Renault AWD and Scania are all around the 200 mark.
