• London tipper operator William Gamble has had his licence revoked by Metropolitan Licens'ng Authority AirVice Marshal Ronald Ashford, following convictions for running trucks without paying vehicle excise duly.

Gamble, of Shepherds Bush, London held a licence for 19 vehicles and two trailers.

Revoking the licence at a London public inquiry, Ashford said that Gamble had operated virtually all of the 13 30-tonne tippers in possession without paving VE D. He had been warned about running untaxed vehicles in April 1989 but had failed to heed that warning. His conduct was inexcusable and amounted to theft from the public purse, said Ashford. In such circumstances, the only penalty could be revocation.
